I am a resourceful design and communications professional, with 20 years of diverse experience.
Born and raised in Anamosa, Iowa, my studies in the arts began with crayons, graduating to pencils, technical pens and eventually computer graphics software. I graduated cum laude from Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design.
In more than 20 years as a professional graphic designer, my career has included employment at a newspaper, a family planning organization, a private university, a botanical garden and several advertising agencies and marketing firms. After five years in Des Moines, I moved to Ohio to accept a job at a small design studio, later striking out as a contractor and freelancer.
I am the author of three books including Brilliant Deduction: The Story of Real-Life Great Detectives. In recent years I have devoted significant time to activism, both professionally and as a volunteer. I have provided communication, design, advocacy, organizing and/or research to various candidates & campaigns.
I once fixed a color copier using nothing but a strip of scrap paper, after a repair technician had examined the machine and concluded that it would need a new part special-ordered.
